It’s no surprise that Ps 88 is seen as a downer - it’s full of despair and fear. The psalmist is crying out to God, but there’s no response. It’s like they’re talking to a wall! You can feel the anguish in every line, and it makes you wonder why this psalm was included in the Bible at all. But maybe that’s the point - to show us that even in our darkest moments, God is still with us.
